Zinner Consultants developed LAUSD’s Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) program, the first and largest high performance schools program in the nation, and continues to support its implementation. CHPS is a sustainable schools rating system; LAUSD has completed over 40 new high scoring CHPS campuses. The goal of the CHPS program is to upgrade the quality of the District’s new facilities and school modernization projects to improve student performance and student and staff health; minimize energy and water utility expenses; and practice environmental stewardship.
The program has been institutionalized through incorporation into the District’s Design Guidelines, Guide Specifications, and design and construction review process. Through its role with LAUSD’s pioneering CHPS program, ZC assisted in the development of the CHPS Best Practices Manual, project scorecard, verification program, implementation roadmap, high performance materials database and U.S. EPA’s Healthy SEAT program.
