Zinner Consultants managed the CHPS verification of the Long Beach Unified School District’s Roosevelt Elementary School, which had two connected goals: create a high scoring green school and earn a State of California Proposition 1D High Performance Incentive grant. As one of the largest and oldest elementary schools in the District, Roosevelt will be completely rebuilt to better serve the needs of the growing student community. The school size will grow from 64,000 to 100,000 square feet, and all portables will be replaced with permanent buildings that surround a central amphitheater and common area with shade trees and landscaping. Because the compact site requires an innovative use of space, the playground will moved to above the ground-level parking garage, which also doubles it current size.
